Go Wild Nature Camps for Galway Science and Technology Festival 2017
Go Wild Nature Camps is a one day event consisting of three separate workshops (aquatic invertebrates, birds of prey and small mammals) targeted at 7-10 year olds. The primary aim is to connect children with their local environment through revealing the wonders and importance of local biodiversity. Emphasis is placed on making nature accessible through practical activities and hands-on learning e.g. analysis of freshwater samples, close encounters with animals and field trip to Merlin woods in addition to games designed to explore important environmental topics in a fun and interactive way.
The nature camps draw together a diverse range of research and local organisations e.g. Vincent Wildlife Trust, Bird Watch Ireland, Animal Magic, Friends of Merlin Woods and the participating children to come together to appreciate the local natural heritage and to transfer knowledge.
